Damage Types
Different weapons and different spells can cause different kinds of damage. For the most part, this won't make too much of a difference - it doesn't matter if it's a fire or electrical damage that has reduced you to still sizzling carbon.
Some creatures, however, have either a Resistance, Immunity or Vulnerability to certain types of damage.
Resistance means that the damage inflicted, after armour has been taken into account, is reduced by half.
Immunity means that the person, surprisingly, that the attack simply doesn't work on the target.
Vulnerability means that, after armour has been taken into account, that type of damage is doubled.

In addition, there are different types of damage. A character may be Resistant, Immune or Vulnerable to one or more of these damage types.
Fire Damage - Typically inflicted by spells of the Pyromancy talent, certain weapons and modifications can inflict it as well. Certain versions may inflict the Burned condition.
Cold Damage - Often inflicted by Aquamancy spells. Some of these attacks inflict the Frozen condition.
Electric Damage - Electrical damage is often inflicted by the Aeromancy Talents.
Force Damage - Typically seen in spells with no Elemental affinity. It is simply raw magical power.
Physical Damage - The damage inflicted by good old, traditional weapons.
